Transferring twice, three buses, and about a 5-hour bus ride, we finally made it to Dingle! I should probably stop saying this, but it is a cute little nice place! I definitely want to come back and spend some time here with my family. We left Galway and went through Limerick and Tralee. The lodge we are staying at, Dingle Harbour Lodge, is very nice with the great view from our room to the water. We went out to explore the place, and we ate at this one restaurant. I got a 'Chunky Seafood Chowder' and it was really good. I have only had clam chowder, but never had seafood chowder with chunks of different types of fish made the soup very flavorful. Then, we took the normal route of getting-ice-creams-after-a-meal. This ice cream place had a sign that reads 'one of the world's best ice cream places,' so I, of course, had to see if that sign was being truthful or not. I got buttermilk and cookies in a cone, and I can confidently say that the sign wasn't lying! Also, this place reminded me a lot of my dad because he loves seafood, and he always looks for fresh seafood when travelling. So I told myself that I should visit here again with my dad next time.
The Dingle Peninsula or Corca Dhuibhne in Irish, stretches 30 miles into the Atlantic Ocean from Ireland's south-west coast. The Blasket Islands lie to the west of the peninsula. Dingle An Daingean is a town in County Kerry, Ireland, which is the only town on the Dingle Peninsula. It sits on the Atlantic coast; Dingle is located about 50 kilometers southwest of Tralee and 71 kilometers northwest of Killarney. The population of Dingle was 1971 in 2012.
In 1984, a young bottle-nosed dolphin made an appearance at the mouth of Dingle Harbor, and the dolphin has remained in Dingle since then. This dolphin became one of the attractions for visitors. Named, ‘Fungie’ by the local fishermen, the male dolphin lives and plays within a small area at the mouth of Dingle Harbor, overlooked by the lighthouse. A small cave under the cliffs at Burnham is thought to be his home. Fungie is very friendly and always welcomes boats. He has been photographed bringing gifts to divers of still living fish in between his jaws. However, he never accepts gifts from others – perhaps to show his freedom?
