Amazing, delicate, beautiful... What else can I say? I can't think of the right word to describe the experience I was very lucky to have at Europa Hotel. A very high real British tea with complementary finger-foods were lovely (I can't emphasize it enough how lovely everything was). We could look down the streets and it was really cool. My first tea was called Lemon Smoothie and my second tea was Florida Fruit Tea. I liked the Lemon Smoothies better because it wasn't as strong as the Florida Fruit Tea, which had a really strong berry taste. The complementary finger-sandwiches and sweets brought pure amazingness to my soul. The fanciness of the whole thing, how tea was served, how foods were served, how we were treated, and the place, amazed me multiple times. I couldn't believe that not only I was drinking the expensive tea, which cost about $40 (22 pounds) per person, but also, I was surprised that I was in the building that
was historically significant and was involved in the bombing events.
Europa was built in 1971 on the site of the Great Northern Railway Station. During The Troubles, it was a hangout place for journalists from all over the world. The hotel joined Hastings Hotel, which are Northern Ireland's premier hotel group. Hasting Hotels are comprised of six luxurious hotels in Northern Ireland in Belfast, Derry, Down and the Antrim Coast. There are three Hasting Hotels in Belfast and they are no more than 10 minutes away from the Belfast City airport. Europa Hotel is known as the 'Europe's most bombed hotel' because it was bombed 33 times (the number might not be correct) between the year of 1971 and 1994 by the IRA, Irish Republican Army. The hotel was blown up by Provisional IRA in 1993 and was damaged so much that it was sold for only 4.4 million pounds, but later on, with 8 million pounds of investment, the hotel reopened in February 1994. Many times, the hotel windows had to be boarded up due to explosions, and this lead to be known as 'Hardboard Hotel' for a while. The name of the hotel changed briefly in 1983 to 'The Forum Hotel,' but right after the Emerald Group bought the hotel in 1986, it brought back the original name. Even with all the obstacles, the hotel didn't give up and stood up like a phoenix. It is a world-renowned hotel – President Bill Clinton stayed here during his two visits to Belfast in 1995 and 1998.
